4M.D., Medical Park Gebze Hospital, Eye Clinic, Kocaeli/TURKEY Purpose: We aimed to evaluate the success and complications of ex-press mini glaucoma implant treatment which is applied in patients with secondary glaucoma refractory to filtration surgery.
Materials and Methods: Ten eyes of the 10 patients who had glaucomatous etiology and did not benefit from trabeculectomy treatment were included in the study. In the etiology, glaucoma was detected following keratoplasty in 4 eyes, as neovascular glaucoma in 4 eyes, due to the anterior chamber lens in 1 eye, and after repair of corneal perforation in 1 eye . All patients were treated with ex-press mini glaucoma implant. Topical antibiotic and corticosteroid therapy were given to all patients following implantation.
Results: Regulation of intraocular pressure was achieved in 7 patients (70%). The mean intraocular pressure were statistically significantly less in the controls compared to preoperative period (p <0.05). In the early postoperative period, 2 eyes displayed hypertonia (20%), 1 eye hypotonia (10%), 1 eye tube endothelial contact (10%), while in the late period, tube occlusion was detected in 3 eyes (30%), tube dislocation in 1 eye (10%), and implant erosion in 2 eyes (20%), respectively. As a result, ex-press implant surgery was evaluated as an effective and reliable method, with a shorter learning curve.
