Purpose: The patients whose antiglaucomatous medication was stopped, because no glaucoma damage was detected, were followed closely and long term follow-up results were evaluated.
Materials and Methods: The glaucoma medication of 91 patients, who started antiglaucomatous medication but who had no detectable glaucoma damage in examinations and tests done in our clinic, were stopped. The IOP, standard and short wave perimetry results, central corneal thickness, optic disc analyses with confocal scanning laser ophthalmoscopy or patients were evaluated.
Results: Seventy eight (85.71%) of the 91 patients, whose medications were stopped and followed, were under glaucoma therapy on initial visit, 13 had glaucoma treatment initiated in our clinic. The patients were followed for 32.95±16.32 (6-96) months. In the follow ups 7 (7.69%) out of 91 patients were found to have glaucomotous changed and therapy was restarted. Of the remaining 84 patients, 35 were considered as ocular hypertension and 49 as healthy eyes.
Discussion: Careful evaluation of the patients and doing the required tests before starting glaucoma treatment will increase the accuracy of the therapy.
